Many gardeners and gardeners had to deal with the rumors about the connection between drugs and ordinary green parsley. But how much truth in this information? And how dangerous is it from the point of view of the law to grow parsley?
This article will tell you whether parsley is banned in Russia and why it is considered so, and whether it is a drug.
In addition, you will learn whether to be afraid of growing this plant as an ordinary gardener, and what will happen if you violate the state ban.
Why did the plant become banned in Russia?
In 2011, the Russian Rospotrebnadzor included several dozen plant species, including curly parsley (or rather, its seeds), in the list of plants that contain potent poisons and narcotic substances.
This was due to the fact that the seeds of the plant contain certain substances that, extracting from the seeds, can be used to make drugs. This information is contained in These changes were made to SanPiN "Hygienic requirements for safety and nutritional value of food products" from 2011.
This list contains more than 350 species of plants growing in Russia. Simultaneously with parsley, several other species were included in it, including:
- swamp and cereal calamus;
- colocint;
- cylindrical and Persian (also known as black cumin seasoning) Bunium;
- monetary quinoa;
- Lead articulate.
Shortly after the news on the listing of curly parsley seeds and the subsequent public discussion, the director of the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia, Sergey Ivanov, called on citizens not to be afraid of growing parsley - a “healthy product” containing many trace elements - as a food product.
Is this a drug?
It is hardly possible to achieve a narcotic effect by simply eating parsley seeds. - for it will need a very huge number of them. In addition to curly parsley, there are many other drug-containing plants used as food. All of them can not be banned, and it does not make sense.
Moreover, parsley oil containing notorious narcotic substances is widespread in medicine:
- in the treatment of urolithiasis;
- kidney disease;
- cardiovascular system.
That, however, does not negate the fact that an overdose of this oil can lead to serious consequences, even death.
Is it worth being afraid of ordinary summer residents?
Of course, after being included in the number of narcotic plants, parsley and its seeds did not disappear from the shelves and store shelves.
Therefore, ordinary gardeners, without a second thought, growing parsley on their weave, absolutely nothing to fear.
The consequences of a violation of the ban
If the law enforcement authorities succeed in proving that parsley was grown for seed, and that is with malicious intent, that is, for the sale of drugs. Of course, it is not entirely clear how law enforcement officers can determine why parsley is grown. Anyway, precedents raids on summer residents have not yet been.
In theory, the cultivation of parsley for the production and sale of narcotic substances is a criminal offense under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This article provides for a fine, correctional labor, or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
There are more than a hundred thousand species of plants containing substances that have a narcotic and psychotropic effect on humans. Some of them are part of the traditional diet of various nations of the world. Obviously, even banning and withdrawing from sale everything that is somehow related to drugs - for example, codeine cough syrups and a number of other important drugs - we will not overcome the drug problem. After all, the demand will certainly remain, namely, it determines the supply.
