Returning the beauty and flowering of your favorite plant: how to save cyclamen from death?

Cyclamen - a spectacular, tuberous, perennial plant, which has more than 20 species.

Flower lovers often grow this beautiful flower on their windowsill. But do not forget that the plant requires special care, and if it is inappropriate, then the flower can just get sick and die.

Cyclamen can be cured, but it is better to try not to bring the flower to the state of wilting.

Consider how to save the flower from death and return cyclamen beauty and rapid flowering.

Growth features

Growing cyclamen from seed will be crowned with success only with strict adherence to sowing technology:

  • seeds are placed in fertile land;
  • the container is covered with glass or film to create a greenhouse effect;
  • Every day covering material is lifted for airing.
The first sprouts will appear in a month, but some seeds can sprout up to six months.

As soon as shoots appeared, the plant is transferred to a cool place with a temperature of + 14-16 degrees. At first, the tuber will be formed from the bore. Only then will the first leaf on a thin shoot grow from it. The plant grows at first very slowly and unnoticed, as the formation of the tuber and root system occurs.

For about 90 days, after the appearance of the first shoots, cyclamen can be transferred to a permanent pot. At this time, 3 true leaves should form on the plant. If done correctly, the plants will be strong and healthy. If the growing process, in your opinion, was successful, but the flower still died, then below are the reasons why it happened and what to do with it.

Causes of the death of a flower

Maybe a few factors of the death of a flower are improper care and attacks of pests, these are the most common reasons why a plant disappears (a description of pests and methods of dealing with them can be found here). There is a list in which experienced growers determine the main factors of wilting:

  1. Wrong watering. One of the main reasons why the flower dies. Cyclamen does not tolerate moisture on the leaves and tuber. For irrigation, it is better to use a syringe or a syringe and inject water in close to the tuber. As soon as moisture gets on the foliage, they may begin to turn yellow. You can find out about the reasons why the leaves may turn yellow and the plant fades.
  2. A large amount of mineral fertilizersdeposited in the soil. Cyclamen does not tolerate saline soils, so the introduction of organic matter can cause tuber rot.
  3. Dry air and bright sunshine can cause wilting of the plant. If cyclamen gives strong and large inflorescences, but at the same time the leaves begin to turn yellow - we urgently change the place where the flower is kept.
  4. Freezing bush. This can occur if the plant is installed on a cold window sill, or on a balcony.
  5. Pests. Aphids, thrips or mites, may appear on the plant and then the leaves will begin to turn yellow, and small holes may appear on their surface.
About the reasons and what to do if the leaves curl, the peduncle dries up, the cyclomen fades and the leaves dry, we told in separate articles on the pages of our website.

How to reanimate at home?

The main program of plant resuscitation is the improvement of care. In most cases, it is incorrect watering becomes the root cause of cyclamen disease. The flower loves moisture, but waterlogging is detrimental to it.. Water should not fall on the flower itself, you need to water on the edge of the pots. How to save flooded cyclamen read here.

To keep the air around the plant moist, a tray of wet pebbles or peat is placed next to it. In the detailed instructions we will tell you what to do if the plant disappears.

detailed instructions

  1. The first thing to do is transplant the plant. Carefully remove the tuber from the pot and inspect it for rotting - the ability to revive the flower depends on how and how much the rot has spread. Found rotted parts, take a sharp knife and remove them to a healthy tissue. So that when re-planting these places do not rot again, they need to be processed. For this in 2 tbsp. l water to dissolve 1 drop of Prvikur and moisten the places of cuts.
  2. After that, we transfer the tuber to a warm, dry, well-ventilated place and leave it for 24 hours in order to stop the process of decay. After a day, you need to check the cyclamen, if there are moist places on the tuber, then leave for another 24 hours.
  3. During this time, we are preparing the soil - to carry out the disinfection process, for this you need to pour it into a special container and heat it well in the oven.
  4. Some gardeners are advised to place the land for 24 hours in the freezer, but you should know that not all diseases can be excluded in this way, for example, the spores of fungi-parasites withstand very low temperatures, while remaining viable.
  5. If the land is bought in a store, then processing is not necessary, since it is undergoing the process of disinfection at the time of packing. Before planting the pot should be washed and rinsed with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  6. Plant cyclamen, and put for 3 days in a dark place, while watering should be very moderate.
  7. If during this time the green leaves did not begin to turn yellow, the tuber processing and transplantation were carried out correctly, you can transfer the pot to the usual place for the cyclamen.
Pests inflict irreparable damage to the flower, and they need to be dealt with correctly.

You can remove any insects in the following ways:

  • Insecticidal soapwhich is dissolved in water at the rate of 50 grams per 4 liters of water. Soap solution helps well in the fight against ticks and aphids. It is enough to take a cotton swab dipped in a solution and process the leaves of the plant from all sides.
  • Fitoderm - this drug has proven itself in the fight against many pests, its positive quality is the absence of an unpleasant smell and absolute safety for humans and domestic animals. For treating a plant affected by a tick, a vial of chemical is diluted with 0.5 liters of water. If thrips are made, you need to take 2 ampoules of 2 ml for the same amount of liquid. Spraying is carried out 2 times with an interval of a week.
  • Argavertin - a universal drug that destroys all insect pests. 1 ampoule is diluted with half a liter of water, sprayed with a plant. Usually one treatment is enough, but for prophylaxis you need to repeat the process after 2 days.

Preventive measures

Cyclamen is a demanding and capricious plant that requires timely and high-quality care.

It is important to know:

  1. The temperature of the content should be - 12-15 degrees. It is not allowed to lower the indicator to +10 degrees. Raising to +20 is also disastrous for the plant.
  2. Illumination - the plant is very light-requiring, but direct sunlight can cause irreparable damage to cyclamen. If the window sill on which the plant pot stands is on the south side, then be sure to build a shading.
  3. Proper watering - moisture should not fall on the plant and its roots.
  4. Timely dressings that need to be made only if the flowering of the cyclamen passes very quickly. At the same time compost is introduced into the soil in the ratio of 1:10 or 1 tbsp. l mineral fertilizer for flowering plants.
Important! In no case do not propagate the plant by dividing the tuber, as the plant will die almost immediately.

You can conduct preventive watering with weak solutions: Fundozol, Alirin B, Gamair or Fitosporin. These preparations will improve the condition of the flower, make its immune system strong, able to fight against various diseases. Watering is carried out once a month.

Conclusion

If you provide the plant with proper care, and you succeed in saving it, it will delight in its rapid flowering, and will be a decoration for the interior of the apartment. As soon as the first signs of a plant disease appear, take immediate action, because whatever you do, it is possible to reanimate a plant when it dies, only with minimal damage.
