Gender description

Geicherra heads the genus of herbaceous perennials of the Kamenelomkovy family. It grows in the western part of North America. Another name for the plant is heuhera. Geykher was named in honor of its discoverer - Johann Heinrich von Geicher, a German botanist. The height of the plant, depending on the species, ranges from 40 to 60 cm. The peculiarity of geyhery is color change foliage during the growing season.

It is used to decorate flowerbeds, central paths and rock gardens.

Beautiful perennial flowers for your flowerbed: aquilegia, anemone, astilbe, Badan, tuberous begonia, Brunner, Chistets, Edelweiss, Echinacea, Violet, Phlox, Gazania, geyhera, Carnation grass and evergreen iberis.

Blood red

Geicherra blood red is a perennial herb, and its varieties are most often used in group plantings.

The leaves reach 5.3 cm in diameter and have a reniform rounded shape. Peduncles reach 40 cm in height. Bells are dark pink or red. Reach 1.2 cm in length. Geyher blooms for 60 days (from June to August).

Important! Geykhery fruits can not be eaten and used as a medicine.
Some varieties of blood-red geyhery:

  • 'Alba' - A plant with white flowers;
  • 'Snowstorm' - has bright red flowers and motley beautiful leaves;
  • 'Splendens' - variety with small carmine-red flowers.

Hybrid

Geykhery hybrids are divided into two groups - shaky-shaped (obtained by crossing American and blood-red) and American (as a result of crossing American, small-flowered and hairy geyhery). The coracoid geyher have large leaves, and the bells of the plant are large. Color varies from white to red. Flowering can last up to two months. Representatives of this group have one drawback - with strong gusts of wind, the rather tender stems of a plant can lie down and break.

Some varieties of coracid geyhery:

  • 'Rakete' - flowers of fiery red color;
  • 'Coral Cloud' - variety with loose florets of bright coral shade;
  • 'Scintillation' - An interesting variety with bright pink flowers with brown specks;
  • 'Snow Flakes' - A variety with fairly large white flowers.

The American group of hybrids have bulky leaves in deep purple, dark purple or brown. Flowers will have the same color as geykher small-flowered.

Representatives of American hybrids: 'Chocolate Ruffles', 'Rachel', 'Ring of Fire', 'Stormy Seas' and etc.

Cylindrical

Geykhera cylindrical is a perennial ornamental plant. In the wild, it grows in high mountains on the coast of the United States.

Ornamental plants that can be grown in the garden: Spirea gray "Grefsheym", Chistets, styloid bryozoans, bird cherries, lythrum, juniper, catnipers, Caucasian fir and Bubblegrass.
Perennial reaches 55 cm in height and has leaves, shaped like a heart. There are many bells, however, they are small, gathered in dense inflorescences-panicles. Color - yellow or cream, sometimes with a reddish or greenish tint. A feature of this species is considered to be silvery spots on the leaves.

On the basis of the cylindrical geyher three cultivars were bred: 'Green Ivory', 'Greenfinch' and 'Hyperion'.

American

American Geicher grows on the rocky shores of North America near the Great Lakes. At home, the plant is called mountain geranium. Perennial has attractive leaves with a rounded heart-shaped on long petioles, with a brown-lilac color on the underside. An interesting feature of this species is that with the onset of cold weather the leaves acquire a very beautiful dark red border.

Peduncles reach 55 cm in height, flowers are yellowish in color. Flowering lasts 2 months from June.

Gooseberry

This species is most often planted by gardeners, as it has high winter hardiness and does not lose its leaves even during the most severe frosts. The Perennial has three to five-lobed middle-sized leaves (up to 8 cm in diameter). Peduncles large and reach 65 cm in height. The flowers are white and large (5 mm in diameter). The plant has a high frost resistance, which allows planting this species in cold regions.

Hairy

Geyhera fibrous has velvety green leaves that reach 15 cm in diameter. Bells - beige-green. Perennial grows up to 45 cm in height and is used in group plantings and border decoration.

Important! The flowers of the plant are poisonous and unsuitable for consumption. Cause vomiting, diarrhea and cramps.

Small flowers

Small-flowered geykhera has maple-like leaves. They are just purple color or have additional silver spots. The inflorescence is 55 cm tall and has small creamy pink flowers with bright orange anthers. Flowering lasts 60 days, starting from the end of May.

The most famous and many favorite variety geykhera small-flowered - 'Palace Purple' ("Purple Castle").
