Step by step instructions on how to make a manual beet planter. What else are and where can I buy?

Sowing seeds is one of the most important stages of beet growing. Any defect can lead to the fact that many shoots die.

It is especially important not to plant the seeds too crowded, but doing it with your hands is inefficient and long. In order to avoid unnecessary loss of harvest, it is best to use a seeder.

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to make a manual planter for beets. Also in this material you will find useful information about what other sowing machines are available for planting beet seeds in open ground and where you can buy these devices for work.

What it is?

Beet planter is a special device designed for planting this vegetable. It greatly facilitates the work of the gardener, the most evenly and accurately scattering seeds into the ground.

The beet seeder consists of a seed box, a seed line, openers that are needed for the formation of grooves in the ground and tillage tools needed to fill the furrows.

What are the types?

  • Seeder on the motor-block - one of types of hinged installations on the motor-block. Principle of operation: openers lay furrows for dimples, then the grain is metered into the wells from the storage (fertilizers can spill along with them at the same stage), then a special roller-wheel closes the furrows and rakes up the bed for better contact with the soil and quick germination. If the rink is missing, you can purchase and attach it yourself.
  • Tractor seeder - mounted on the tractor. The principle of operation is almost the same as that of the seeder on the motor block, only the grooves are cut by the support wheels, and after the grain spills out, the beds are covered with earth from the rear drum or the opener.
  • Hand drill is a small box in the bottom of which small holes are made, on wheels, in which seeds are poured. The wheels form the grooves where the seed falls, after which the rear wheels are covered with earth.

Pros and cons of various types

Seeder on the motor-blockTractor seederHand drill
prosSmall size, suitable for small agro-technical farmsSuitable for large volumes of work, allows you to automate the seeding processLow cost, suitable for working in the garden
MinusesHigh cost, it is necessary to choose a seeder specifically for a walk-behind tractorNot suitable for working in the garden, high costNot very effective, does not allow to add fertilizer at the time of sowing

What does the choice depend on?

  • Principle of operation: the seeder on the motoblock has a similar principle of operation of that on the tractor. It is automated. Manual device controls the same person, which allows you to perform more subtle work and more accurate to sow beets.
  • Weights: The seeder on the tractor is the hardest of all and more power is required to move it. The seeder on the walker is lighter, but still requires additional power. The handheld device works from the efforts of a person, it does not need additional moving elements.
  • Prices: a seeder on a tractor costs 200-700 thousand, but it is more expensive; the seeder on the motor-block is cheaper and has a price of 10-20 thousand; manual seeder is the cheapest and its price does not exceed the threshold of 10 thousand, depending on the selected model.
  • Type of seeding: a seeder on a walking tractor or a tractor will make it possible to sow with fertilizers using disc, spoon, butterfly, inner-rib, brush, rope, reel, cellular sowing machines. For the manual characteristic coil type.
  • Manufacturer: The tractor seeders are made by Belarus, Russia, as well as some other countries; on the motoblock - America, Russia and Belarus, manual - Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
  • Grip width: depends on the model. The seeders on the tractor have an average capture of 3.6 meters; on the walker - meter; manual - maximum 0.5 meters.

How to do it yourself?

Inventory:

  1. Drill: 2.5 mm and 5 mm drills.
  2. Joiner's hammer.
  3. Passatizhi or pliers.
  4. Epoxy resin.
  5. Protractor.

Necessary materials:

  • Empty steel pipe up to 5 cm in diameter and a total length of not more than half a meter.
  • A wooden or plastic rod is 10-15 cm longer than a steel pipe. The diameter of the rod should be 1 mm smaller than the diameter of the tube.
  • Three bearings.
  • Wheels with a diameter of 15 to 25 cm, also fit the wheels from a children's bicycle or stroller.
  • Plastic hopper, you can make a few pieces.
  • Wooden beam section 7 to 3 cm, wooden lath, galvanized tape from 0.8 to 1.5 cm wide.

Planter elements:

  1. Seed hopper.
  2. Drive wheel
  3. Marker new series.
  4. Press wheel.
  5. Chain.
  6. Handles
  7. Vomer
  8. Seed adjustment
  9. Zagoratch

Step-by-step instructions for the production of homemade tools

  1. A rod with bearings pre-fixed on it is inserted into the pipe - one in the middle, two along the ends of the tube.
  2. This design is fixed on the wheels, clamped, a marking is applied to it for drilling holes on top of the tube, they are outlined taking into account the planned distance between the seeds.
  3. Drill with a 2.5 mm drill make a hole in the pipe, drive the rod inside to a depth of 2.5 mm. Turn it to 45 degrees, choose the grooves again. Seven times repeat the action, evenly distributing the wells on the rod. If necessary, reduce the step of landing, turning the rod to a smaller degree.
  4. We take the structure out of the tube and drill the holes at the bottom with a 5 mm drill, then again connect the tube to the rod.
  5. At the top of the tube we attach bunkers (0.5 l plastic bottles can be taken) for the seeds, from which they will fall into the dispenser.
  6. Manufacturing handles: fasten in the middle of the rail construction of wood. Select the semicircles at the ends of the slats that are suitable for the diameter of the pipe. All this is fixed with bars on both sides and fixed with epoxy resin. The rail is wrapped with galvanized tape, after it is thoroughly pressed with pliers. The ends of galvanized folded in accordance with the width of the landing row.

Possible problems when making fixtures

The main difficulty in the manufacture of devices can be the absence of any materials, as well as the difficulty in their selection. To avoid this, you need to accurately calculate the size of the planned seed drill.

Anyway, regardless of whether the planter was made by itself or purchased in a specialized store, it can become an indispensable assistant in the sowing of beets, the main thing is to choose the right type depending on the size of your site.
