Breeding history and breeding region
Regent is a complex interspecific hybrid of German selection. Obtained at the German Institute of Viticulture "Gayvaylerkhof" thanks to the crossing of Diana (Sylvaner x Muller Thurgau) with Shambursen grapes (1967).
The author of the variety is the German breeder Gerhard Alleveld. In the literature Regent is also found under the name of the Gayvaylerhof 67-198-3.
This variety is distributed both in our country and in the neighboring countries. It is grown in America and Germany.
Rumba, Moor and Citron Magaracha are also hybrid forms of grapes.
It is not recommended for the northern regions of Russia, since it belongs to the mid-late variety and may not fully ripen during the summer period.
Grape Regent: variety description
- Regent has excellent frost resistance and can withstand temperature drops to -27 -28 degrees.
In the southern regions of the grapes can not cover for the winter. In our strip, the plant is recommended to grow as a covering culture.
- Grapes are characterized by average yields. If you need a high-yielding variety, pay attention to the Anniversary of the Kherson Summer Resident, Rkatsiteli or the Gift of the Magarach.
Soil fertility, proper care, as well as the region of cultivation play a significant role in obtaining a quality crop. Fruitful shoots about 80%.
Pay attention to the allowable load on the bush. For a regent, 65-75 eyes are considered optimal when pruning into four eyes.
- The harvest is recommended to be removed in time, as the attachment of the berries to the stem begins to weaken and they begin to crumble.
In addition, the acidity index decreases, if the grapes remain on the bush for a long time after ripening.
- Regent responsive to feeding and needs them.
Very sensitive to nutrient deficiencies in the earth (especially magnesium).
The variety is best suited for preparing high-quality red wines, as well as home-made non-alcoholic beverages (compote, juice).

Diseases and pests
Regent has good resistance to mildew (2 points), phylloxera (3.5 points), oidium and gray rot (2.5 points). Remarkably, in some areas of Germany, the Regent is grown completely without the use of chemical preventive treatments, including against other common grape diseases.
Such grapes produce an ecologically pure wine of the highest quality, which is especially appreciated by buyers. Despite the strong immunity, as a preventive measure, it is possible to treat the bushes in spring and autumn.
The best protection against diseases and pests is regular, caring and proper care of the plant.
The regent needs regular watering, fertilizers, timely pruning, and care for the soil around the bushes. Wasp grapes are not often affected.
Today, more and more gardeners are beginning to give preference to the Regent variety.
It is called one of the best varieties, from which it turns out excellent quality wine, as well as homemade soft drinks.
It is valued for its good taste, resistance to diseases and pests, frost resistance and aesthetic appearance.
Among the especially delicious varieties are also worth noting Velika, Krasa Balki, Romeo and Ataman.
