Brugmansia: main types of "angel trumpets"

Brugmansia is a member of the Solanaceae family. Today you can find six types of Brugmans, which grow in their natural environment in the foothills of South America, in a subtropical climate. The name of the plant was in honor of the Dutch botanist Sebald Justinus Brygmans. In the people of Brugmansia is often called the "angel trumpets." Brugmansia is thermophilic, therefore it is very difficult to grow in our latitudes, but despite this, many plant growers have achieved significant success in this difficult task.

Important! Brugmancia contains toxic and hallucinogenic substances in insignificant amounts, therefore it is necessary to carefully consider the choice of its cultivation site, especially if there are young children in the house.

In addition, this luxurious beauty is considered to be the closest relative of the ordinary dope, although outwardly these plants are absolutely different. Almost all types of Brugmans have a similar description, but varieties differ in the length of flowers and the height of bushes.

Brugmansia tree

Tree brugmansia in nature can be found in Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Bolivia. In our country, the plant is known as Brugmansia snow-white or white dope. In the height of the bushes can reach three meters. During the flowering period, the plant is covered with white or pale pink tubular bell-shaped flowers with a length of 20 to 25 centimeters. Although this species is very often cultivated at home, it is very rare in the natural environment. The plant is successfully grown all over the world, both in open ground and in greenhouses. Be prepared for the fact that if the thermometer drops below zero, the ground part of the plant will die, but with the onset of spring, the culture will delight you with new young shoots.

Tree brugmancia differs from its relatives in that it has a fibrous root system, and its stems are covered with a dense crust. During the growing season, the plant is covered with pubescent oval leaves that have a smooth edge.

Brugmansia snow white

White Brugmansia is a short tree with a short trunk. Due to its compact size, the plant does not require from the plant grower the presence of large areas for cultivation. White Brugmansia differs from other species in that it has slightly elongated, oval, velvety leaves covering the whole plant with a dense carpet. During the flowering period, it is covered mostly with white flowers, which emit an intense aroma, which is greatly enhanced at night.

The plant begins to bloom in the second half of July and ends around the middle of October.

Multicolor brugmansia

Brugmancia multicolored (variegated) comes from Ecuador. She is a real giant, when grown in comfortable conditions her shoots can reach four or even five meters in length. No less impressive are the sizes of flowers Brugmancia, reaching a length of 50 centimeters. During the flowering period, the plant is covered with two-color flowers, the tube of which has a cream color, and their strongly marked limb may have the most unexpected color.

Brugmancia noticeable

Brugmancia noticeable loves the light very much and will be grateful for the cultivation in open space. Shrubs varieties can reach up to four meters in height. The corollas of flowers have an open appearance and pale pink, yellow or white color. In length, the flowers of the variety are up to 45 centimeters.

Aroma brugmansia

Brugmancia is a fragrant native of southwestern Brazil. This is the most fragrant representative of this family. In height, an evergreen plant reaches five meters. During the flowering period, the shrub is covered with 30-centimeter flowers that have a pale green or white corolla and a green tube. In our latitudes, fragrant Brugmansia can bloom all year round only in the greenhouse. The bush is covered with green, oval-shaped leaves that reach 25 centimeters in length and 15 centimeters in width.

Brugmansia bloody

The second name of bloody Brugmansia is the angel's bloody trumpets, which fully characterizes the color of the plant. This is one of the most beautiful varieties. When creating favorable conditions, crop sprouts can be four meters long. During the flowering period, the plant is covered with delightful colors of red, orange or yellow. Culture flowers exude a light fragrance that intensifies with the onset of twilight. The main difference between bloody Brigmansia and all other varieties is that it has a high resistance to frost and easily tolerates a slight decrease in temperature to minus numbers.

Important! Brugmansia is a poisonous plant, and to protect your body from the toxic effects of hazardous substances contained in its leaves, stems and flowers, you should wash your hands with soap and water after it.

The plant is large, so for normal development will require an impressive space.

Brugmansia volcanic

Brugmansia volcanic is one of the rarest varieties, which in its natural environment grows high in the mountains on the territory of Colombia. Shoots can be up to four meters long. The whole bush is covered with pale pink or orange hanging flowers with a length of up to 20 centimeters.

The flowering of golden Brugmans is a delightful sight: during this period, the culture is covered with bright yellow flowers that have a wide limb and reach 30 centimeters in length. Sometimes flowers are creamy or pink. By evening, their scent is enhanced, which attracts a myriad of butterflies and other insects. The plant has a short stem and dark green long narrow leaves, covered on both sides with false mealy. No need to deny yourself the pleasure to grow Brugmans. Despite all the warnings, this is a very unpretentious plant that can become the main attraction of any garden plot.
