Pigeons contained in captivity, even with a full-fledged diet, may suffer from viral diseases, which are carried by wild birds.
For this reason, it is necessary to conduct their vaccination - including the drug, which will be discussed further.
Learn about the composition, prescription and proper use of the La Sota vaccine.
Composition and release form
Distributed in ampoules of 0.5 cu. cm (sometimes you can find large volumes, up to 4 cc. cm). In one pack of 10 vials, which are designed for 100 doses. The drug is a dry powdery substance of yellow color.
The composition is represented by a strain of Newcastle disease, which was obtained on SPF chicken embryos (SPF, Specific Pathogen Free, - lacking specific pathogenic compounds).
The vaccine is on the market, both imported and domestically produced. The main foreign manufacturer is Germany.
Did you know? Viruses are not living creatures, so they can not be killed, you can only neutralize them for a while. They can exist for millions of years, as they are only “bunches” of chemical substances with genes.
Indications for use
It is used exclusively as a preventive measure for vaccination against Newcastle disease (Asian bird plague). This viral disease is transmitted between different birds, mainly from the order of chickens.
In the instructions for the vaccine, the description of vaccination of pigeons may be absent, but this does not exclude the possibility of the development of the disease in these birds. The drug has no contraindications for use in pigeons of various species.

Dosing and Administration
Consider two methods of drug administration that are suitable for small and large poultry.
Intranasal method
This method involves the introduction of a diluted drug through the nasal cavity. Used exclusively for small livestock.
The powder is diluted in 0.1 ml of sodium chloride solution, then two drops are instilled into one nostril. During the procedure, the free nostril is gently closed with a finger so that the substance passes through the nasopharynx and does not flow back.
Vaccination is repeated after one decade, since immunity to the disease disappears.
Important! For the procedure it is necessary to use a standard pharmacy pipette, it is forbidden to dig in with a syringe.
Enteric method
If there are a large number of pigeons, it is physically difficult to drip the preparation of each individual, so the vaccine is diluted in drinking water, after which it is offered to the bird.
Note that if in the process of dilution the powder precipitated - it means that you have purchased an expired or low-quality product that is subject to disposal.
In the evening, water tanks are removed from the dovecote so that the bird would be thirsty in the morning. The base is boiled or filtered water. Do not use saline.
Each pigeon should receive 1 ml of vaccine, so count the total amount, then dilute the powder in such a volume of water that the bird will drink in 4 hours. You can not take less than 200-300 ml of liquid, otherwise individual individuals can absorb tenfold doses, which will adversely affect their health.
After vaccination, the drinker is thoroughly washed. If it remains diluted drug, it is disposed of.
Important! Feed the pigeons after vaccination is possible only after 90 minutes.
Contraindications and side effects
La Soto is prohibited from giving to a bird in the following cases:
- the presence of progressive diseases;
- weakening of immunity;
- the use of antibiotics, nitrofuran or sulfanilamide drugs.
Side effects occur only in young animals. There may be shortness of breath, malaise, loss of appetite. In adult pigeons, there is no side effect.
Shelf life and storage conditions
Since the drug is a weakened Newcastle virus, it should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 ° C in a place protected from moisture and light. Violation of storage conditions will lead to damage to the vaccine, or to serious consequences, including infection.

Remember that before you is not a medicine, but a viable virus, therefore an expired or incompletely used drug must be boiled beforehand. Only then can the vaccine be disposed of in any way.
Shelf life - 1 year.
The vaccine "La Sota" eliminates the emergence and spread of the virus that can cause a massive death of birds, so it must be used to prevent viral disease in both large and small farms.
